You have likely heard that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. And while that varies from person to person, breakfast (or the first meal you eat once waking up) does have significant benefits. But, for college students, breakfast can be nearly impossible. If you opt for the dining hall, you're faced with long lines and weird hours. But if you choose to make breakfast in your dorm, you may find yourself eating the same meal day in and day out. That's where we come in! Here are five easy yet delicious breakfasts that you can make with limited space and supplies.

1. Oatmeal

Oatmeal is one of the easiest meals ever! Not only does it require just two ingredients (oats and water), but it also takes less than five minutes. All you need is a microwave. Simply combine oats and water in a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 3 minutes (or until your desired consistency). Oatmeal is the perfect dorm-room dish because it's so low-maintenance. The necessary ingredients won't take up any space in your room, and there's no preparation involved. Plus, if you're feeling extra, you can customize your meal with toppings such as berries, raisins, sugar, or nuts.

2. Mug Cakes

Mug cakes are another easy microwaveable meal—perfect for busy college students. They require a bit more cooking than oatmeal, but it is worth it! To make a mug cake, first determine your desired flavor. The base for any mug cake is boxed cake mix, meaning you have as many flavor possibilities as cake mixes. Once you've chosen your cake mix, add 5 tbsp of the dry mix to a microwave-safe mug. Then, add 2 tbsp of water and 1 tbsp of water. Finally, microwave for ~1 minute. You'll be left with a delicious, light, and sugary treat that is sure to make your morning that much sweeter.

3. Yogurt Parfait

Yogurt parfaits are another great breakfast, as they only require two ingredients, both of which can be kept in your fridge. (So, your desk and limited drawer space remain free for other essentials!) Yogurt parfaits consist of your choice of yogurt and fresh fruit. Many people also add granola and honey as additional toppings, but these are optional. Making a yogurt parfait is easy; just spoon your favorite yogurt into a bowl, then add the fruit and any extra toppings. Delicious!

4. Toast

If your school allows toasters in the dorm, then what's easier than toast? Toast, while seemingly childish and bland, can actually be a delicious dorm breakfast. Apart from the necessary bread, there is a wide variety of ingredients you can use as toppings and spreads. Some ideas are peanut butter and banana, yogurt and raspberries, butter and cinnamon sugar, or avocado mash. So if you're ever running late for a morning class, a quick toast is sure to come in clutch!

5. Fruit Salad

Who doesn't love a fruit salad? Fruit salads are delicious, light, and the perfect refreshing breakfast. While they do require some preparation, luckily, all you need is a small knife and a clear space or counter (a desk is fine!). It's also beneficial to have a mini-fridge to keep the fruit fresh. To make a fruit salad, you can use any combination of your favorite fruits, whether it's bananas, apples, or strawberries. Simply cut them up and mix together in a bowl. That's it! But, if you want to elevate it, consider adding a drizzle of honey or lime/citrus juice for some extra sweetness and acidity.

These five breakfast ideas aren't just easy to make, but they also require minimal space and limited ingredients, which we know is crucial in a tiny living space. So, whether you’re in a rush heading to class or looking for a leisurely morning meal, these options will help you start your day off right!
