What is better than a slice of cake? Perhaps eating it on the beach while watching the sun go down. Well, at Boop’s by Bubble Room, this vision is possible. Boop’s is a cafe on Captiva Island, Florida, that serves coffee, breakfast sandwiches, fresh-baked pastries, ice cream, and, their main hit: cake! Boop’s originated as a spin-off of the Bubble Room—the restaurant that originally served Boop's cakes and a full-service menu. Many customers would come to Bubble Room just for the cake (my family being one). So, Bubble Room decided they needed a dessert shop dedicated to selling these popular cakes along with a few other dessert and breakfast-like items. That's how Boop came to life.
Boop’s is located right next to Bubble Room, or I should say, what used to be Bubble Room. Bubble Room recently experienced heavy damage from Hurricane Milton. While there are speculations the restaurant may reopen by the end of the year, this makes Boop’s an even more precious location for the time being. The cake selection at Boop’s features a wide selection, including French Chocolate Torte, Very Moist Chocolate, Jamaican Rum Cake, Key Lime Pie, Butter Crunch Ice Cream Pie, Tropical Breeze, New York Style Cheesecake, White Christmas, Red Velvet, and a fan favorite, Orange Crunch. Is your mouth drooling after that? Mine sure is!
Beyond just the spectacular cakes that both Boop’s and Bubble Room serve, the experience they deliver is unmatched. Bubble Room was established in 1979 to mimic life in the 1920s-1950s. The entire restaurant is decorated with carnival-like decor, immersing the guests in a nostalgic experience. Items such as soapbox derby cars, vintage toys, old movie posters, and other various knickknacks are spread throughout the restaurant. Even the color scheme contributes to their retro aesthetic as it features vibrant, rainbow colors. There is also a special room at the front of the restaurant that replicates a vintage take on Christmas. This room held antique Santa and elf figurines, Christmas lights, and other holiday decor. As a result, it instantly became popular among crowds as customers felt engulfed by the Christmas spirit upon entering that room no matter what time of the year it was.
Boop’s followed the concept of Bubble Room, opening in 2021 as a Betty Boop-inspired cafe. The cafe features vintage decor, including a small statue of Betty Boop near the seating area. The staff at this cafe also dress the part, wearing either skirts with blouses or plain or striped pants and white button-downs, completing the look with an apron overtop and white paper caps on their heads.
So, if you ever travel to Captiva Island, stop by Boop’s and the Bubble Room for a delightful and delicious experience. Your taste buds and your spirit will not be disappointed!
