In a world full of sugar crashes, fad diets, and energy drainers, a new league of heroes has come to save the day. They don’t wear capes or have wings. They don’t fight with weapons, but with vitamins, minerals, and flavor-packed powers.
Meet the Superfood Superheroes: a squad of foods here to refuel your brain and body, boost your energy, and improve your glow inside and out. This squad is made up of five members, each with their own unique qualities and abilities that will help you take on the villains of fatigue, stress, and energy slumps. Each hero is ready to unleash their powers in fun, delicious, and unique ways. So grab your fork, summon your appetite, and get ready to join the Superfood Squad on their mission to make healthy eating feel epic.
Superhero 1: Glow Getter (Sweet Potato)
Our first Superfood Superhero is the Glow Getter—aka the sweet potato. Her superpowers include boosting immune function, sharpening brain development, protecting eye health, balancing blood sugar levels, and fueling the body with essential minerals. The Glow Getter is packed with vitamins A, C, and B6, giving her strength to improve people's immune function and brain health. Her high fiber content allows her to help others maintain healthy blood sugar levels. Filled with beta-carotene, she can enhance others' vision and protect against eye-related issues. To top it off, she is full of healthy minerals (calcium, iron, magnesium, and copper), which help build strong bones, improve circulation, and keep muscles and nerves functioning properly.
The Glow Getter’s sidekick is Cinna-Spark, better known as cinnamon. Cinna-spark amplifies the Glow Getter’s powers by adding an extra layer of flavor and an energy boost. His warm, spicy energy keeps energy levels steady, helps reduce inflammation, and promotes heart health, making him the perfect partner-in-crime for the Glow Getter and her mission.
The Glow Getter’s weakness comes in when she is overloaded with sugar or fried in too much oil. This weighs her down and dims her superpowers, stripping away her natural nutrients. Instead of fueling immune strength, brain development, and energy levels, she becomes sluggish and less effective. To keep her powers shining, the Glow Getter works best when she is baked, roasted, or lightly seasoned, allowing her natural abilities and nutrients to do their magic. The Glow Getter comes to the rescue through various mission recipes. A few include Glow Getter Fries, Glowchos, and Cinnamon Glow Oats:
Glow Getter Fries
Slice sweet potatoes into thin wedges.
Season with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, and salt.
Roast in oven at 400°F for 40-45 minutes (until crispy).
Glowchos (Sweet Potato Nachos)
Slice sweet potatoes into rounds
Roast in oven at 400°F for 25-30 minutes (or until almost crispy).
Add ground beef and cheese & put back in oven for 5-10 more minutes.
Add cold toppings of choice: tomatoes, green onions, etc.
Cinnamon Glow Oats
Stir roasted sweet potato mash into warm oatmeal.
Sprinkle with cinnamon, a drizzle of honey, and crushed almonds.
Top with berries for an antioxidant boost.
Superhero 2: Green Goddess (Spinach)
The second Superfood Superhero is the Green Goddess—better known as spinach. Her superpowers include improving digestion, fueling cellular function and tissue growth, and boosting skin health.
The Green Goddess is loaded with fiber, which keeps digestion running smoothly and aids gut health. She is also full of vitamins and minerals (vitamins C and K1, folic acid, iron, and calcium), allowing her to support oxygen flow, strengthen muscles and bones, promote tissue growth, and rejuvenate the skin of her people. The Green Goddess’s sidekick is Zestie, also known as lemon. Zestie complements Green Goddess by enhancing her iron absorption, taking her strength and powers to the next level. On top of this, Zestie adds a bright burst of Vitamin C and a zesty boost of flavor, making their partnership powerful and refreshing.
The Green Goddess’s weakness is being overpowered by too much dressing or cooking oil. When this happens, her natural benefits are hidden, and her nutritious value is masked altogether. She is most powerful when prepared simply, lightly dressed, or gently cooked, allowing her true strengths to shine through. The Green Goddess has some staple mission recipes. Fill a whole-grain or spinach wrap with spinach, grilled chicken, avocado, cucumbers, and a drizzle of lemon-tahini dressing (or dressing of choice).
Enjoy this mission-packed meal, packed with protein, fiber, and flavor.
Superhero 3: Berry Blast
Our third Superfood Superhero is Berry Blast, also known as berries! Berry Blast draws its strength from its powerful antioxidants, which keep free radicals (unstable molecules that can damage cells when excessive) under control, protect cells from damage, and reduce the risk of disease. Her anti-inflammatory powers help the body heal faster and stay resilient. Her fiber powers also keep digestion running smoothly and promote gut health. With her vibrant colors and nutrient-packed punch, Berry Blast is always ready to energize, defend, and provide balance to the body.
Berry Blast’s sidekick is actually another member of our squad, Gut Guardian, better known as Greek yogurt. The Gut Guardian is packed with protein and probiotics, giving Berry Blast an extra boost of strength and stamina. His probiotics support gut health and digestion, while his protein helps build and repair muscles after every mission. The Gut Guardian has many other benefits to the body that you will learn more about later, but for now, just know that he and Berry Blast make an unstoppable team, pairing antioxidant power with gut-strengthening to keep the body energized and protected.
Berry Blast’s weakness occurs when her powers are masked with excessive sugar in sauces, syrups, and jams. The added sugar drowns out her natural properties, stripping away her antioxidant strength. She has turned from a health hero to a sugar overload. To keep her powers at their peak, Berry Blast shines best when enjoyed fresh, frozen, or slightly sweetened (especially with honey), allowing her natural nutrients to take the spotlight. Superhero 4: Gut Guardian
Introducing Gut Guardian, also known as Greek yogurt, or Berry Blast’s sidekick. While you already know a little bit about him, Gut Guardian has plenty of unique powers of his own. He is loaded with protein and probiotics, making him the champion of muscle strength and digestive health. His probiotics, including live and active cultures, keep the gut balanced and thriving, while his protein fuels growth and repair after every mission. On top of that, Gut Guardian is rich in vitamins B12, selenium, and zinc, which enhance immune and nervous system function, support red blood cell formation, and boost the body’s energy. One more of the Gut Guardian’s specialties is his versatility. The Gut Guardian can transform into sweet or savory dishes alike, including dips, dressings, sauces, soups, and even desserts. Whether a protein-packed dressing or morning parfait, the Gut Guardian adapts to any mission in front of him.
The Gut Guardian’s weakness is when he is overloaded with added sugars. Buffalo Guardian Dip:
Combine cream cheese & Greek yogurt in a mixing bowl.
Add buffalo sauce and seasonings: garlic powder, onion powder, and salt/pepper.
Fold in shredded chicken and mix in cheddar cheese (save a little cheese for the topping if desired).
Guardian Bark:
Mix Greek yogurt, honey/maple syrup, and vanilla until smooth.
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper & spread mixture evenly on it (about ½ inch thick).
Sprinkle toppings of choice: berries, chocolate chips, banana slices, nuts/seeds, etc.
Freeze for 2-3 hours (or until firm).
Superhero 5: Captain Omega (Salmon)
Welcoming our last member of the squad, Captain Omega, also known as salmon. Captain Omega is fueled by his mighty omega-3 fatty acids, which power his inflammation-fighting, heart- and cell-protecting, and disease-preventing abilities. His quality protein plays a crucial role in bone health and muscle growth. His vitamin D levels increase one’s energy and protect heart and brain health. Not to mention his ability to wield selenium, a trace mineral the body needs to support bone health and thyroid function and protect against certain types of cancer. Captain Omega ensures the squad stays sharp, strong, and ready for any challenge.
Captain Omega’s sidekick is Herbie, the master of freshness and flavor. Herbie represents the squad of herbs, such as dill, parsley, basil, and more, all of which enhance Captain Omega’s powers. With his antioxidant properties, anti-inflammatory benefits, and digestive support, Herbie not only adds a vibrant boost of flavor but also enhances immunity, aids digestion, and promotes overall wellness. He’s versatile, adaptable, and always ready for the next challenge, whether it’s in marinades, sauces, or sprinkled on top as a garnish. Herbie makes sure Captain Omega is not just powerful but also insanely delicious.
Captain Omega’s weakness becomes apparent when it is overcooked or masked by heavy sauces. These conditions diminish his omega-3 fatty acids and other nutrients, reducing his heart and cell-protecting powers, along with his inflammation-fighting abilities. To keep these abilities at their peak, Captain Omega is best enjoyed gently cooked, baked, or grilled, allowing his natural strength and benefits to shine. Some of Captain Omega’s favorite leading mission recipes are the Omega Power Bowl, Captain Bang-Bang Salad, and Crispy Citrus Salmon.
Omega Power Bowl
Grill off a salmon filet
Combine with rice or quinoa, spinach, avocado, tomato, and a drizzle of olive oil
Captain Bang-Bang Salad
Bread salmon with panko breadcrumbs.
Cook in oven for 20-25 minutes at 400°F.
Make bang-bang sauce: combine Greek yogurt with sweet chili sauce, sriracha, honey, and salt.
Combine salmon, lettuce, tomato, cheddar cheese, and bang-bang sauce in a bowl.
Crispy Citrus Salmon
Season salmon filets with salt, pepper, and olive oil.
Pan-sear the filets skin-side down for 3-4 minutes until crispy, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Bake salmon in oven at 400°F for 10-12 minutes.
Drizzle with lemon juice and sprinkle lemon zest and herbs for garnish.
