Bostonia Public House: The Best Restaurant Along the Boston Freedom Trail

Written by: Lindy Winkler

Located in downtown Boston, Bostonia Public House is the perfect spot to dine while exploring Boston’s rich history along the Freedom Trail. Established in 2014, Bostonia is a modern American cuisine restaurant with options for all kinds of eaters. Bostonia’s building was originally built in 1902 and therefore highlights the architecture of Boston. Its location is even better; adjacent to Faneuil Hall, Bostonia reflects the history of Boston. The restaurant is adorned with three awards, and for good reason. Bostonia Public House was named the 2022 Traveler’s Choice and the 2023 Diner’s Choice and is listed on TripAdvisor’s Top 25 Everyday Dining. The restaurant was also seen on The Knot. Bostonia is accessible to everyone, as it opens at 9:00 a.m. and stays open until 2:00 a.m. from Thursday to Saturday. Furthermore, Bostonia boasts an array of menus: a brunch menu (until 3 p.m. every day), lunch, dinner, dessert, drinks, kids, and late-night menus. To top it off, Bostonia hosts live music events, from a daily DJ to live bands.

I recently dined at Bostonia Public House halfway into my Freedom Trail walk on vacation with my family. After walking for the majority of my day, I was relieved to walk into Boston’s welcoming and stylish atmosphere. The rustic and warm environment made the restaurant feel like an inviting place to relax and enjoy my food. The restaurant houses two bars as well as event spaces and private rooms. With a spacious seating area including three levels, Bostonia Public House also hosts private events and parties. Overall, everything at Bostonia was well-planned and cohesive, making it a great dining experience.

When I first walked in, the hosts were very approachable, and we were seated immediately. Our window-side table was in the perfect location, with the DJ, kitchen, bar, and upper and lower levels all within our eyesight. Despite being very crowded, our waitress was quickly at our table. We started with drinks. I ordered a Shirley Temple and was pleasantly surprised to find it had real, dried cherries. (The rest of my family also thoroughly enjoyed their drinks.)

When I looked over the menu and decided what to get, I was happy to see that they served brunch until 3 p.m. As a breakfast food lover, it was extremely hard for me to choose between all the options. I debated between sweet and savory and ended up ordering the veggie Benedict.

Now, when it comes to ordering food with my family, it can get very complicated as we have a lot of allergies. However, Bostonia’s accommodations were outstanding! We could get their Fried Calamari and their “Salt and Pepper” Wings, all of which accommodated dairy, sesame, and nut allergies. Additionally, my nut allergy was not an issue, as the waitress and chefs made sure to note it and were extra careful.

After ordering, we only had to wait 20 minutes for our food to come out presentable and delicious. The Veggie Benedict was composed of an English muffin, avocado, spinach, tomato, a poached egg, and hollandaise sauce. It came served with crisp yet tender breakfast potatoes. As I dug into my first bite, the flavors exploded in my mouth. The English muffin was perfectly toasted and was balanced with the salty egg, the creamy hollandaise, and the refreshing vegetables. It was the perfect brunch bite! I also loved the breakfast potatoes, which were wonderfully browned and seasoned. Overall, the meal was an excellent pick-me-up that satisfied my brunch cravings and energized me for the rest of my day exploring Boston.

In general, my experience at Bostonia Public House was worth 5 stars. From the moment we walked in, the service was incredible, the atmosphere was welcoming, the live DJ was great, and the food was mouthwatering. So, if you are in Boston and want an easy, accommodating, and tasty restaurant, Bostonia Public House is the place for you!
