As a student, working in the library or at home gets dull sometimes. It can be hard to stay motivated long enough to get things done. That’s where a local cafe comes in. Cafes are the best places to get focused on school work or to relax with some good friends. And there’s nothing like a sweet treat and an environment to keep you content and stimulated. All around Atlanta and surrounding neighborhoods are cafes, but nowhere is the cafe scene more lively than in Duluth, Georgia, a city just outside metro Atlanta. There are hundreds of different places to choose from, from coffee and tea to boba and pastries galore. These cafes are perfect spots for any teen or college student looking for a great space with even better sweet treats and drinks. Without further ado, here is my list of the top 4 cafes in Duluth, Georgia.
1. Cafe Blue Coffee Roasters
A new cafe on the scene, usually packed with students, Cafe Blue is the perfect cozy spot for spending quality time with friends and working on homework. Their affordable menu features signature drinks, from coffees to teas, that make you want more. Not to mention, the ambiance of Cafe Blue is relaxing, down-to-earth, and aesthetically pleasing. I recommend trying three drinks. First is their Butterfly Pea Flower Tea Latte, which is not only gorgeous but has a light orange-creamsicle flavor that is refreshing and sweet. Second is their popular Strawberry Cream Matcha, which is perfectly balanced. Lastly, their London Fog Lavender latte is floral and citrusy with notes of calming lavender. But if you’re not feeling adventurous, any of their regular lattes like chai and coffee are just what sweet tooths—like me—need.
2. Sweet Hut Bakery & Cafe
Sweet Hut is a popular and beloved Atlanta-born chain cafe for good reason, as their pastries, drinks, and food items are extensive and incredibly delicious. Not only that, but they are great for students ranging from high school to college looking for a chill spot to work, as they are almost open all day long. Their boba selection has something for everyone, with milk tea, fruit tea, coffee, and more. And if you’re feeling peckish, their pastries range from salty to sweet, plus their East Asian street food snacks are fun and tasty. My go-to boba drinks that never disappoint have to be their mango black tea and honey jasmine milk green tea. Lastly, their salt and pepper chicken nuggets and fries are well-seasoned and perfect with any drink.
3. Empanada House
Located in the heart of Downtown Duluth’s lively and charming center, Empanada House is a colorful and unique fusion café that has tons of delectable Latin American and East Asian foods to offer. On the top floor of an Asian fusion restaurant sits the Empanada House, a cute and student-friendly place with outdoor seating views to match. The vibrant and open seating makes for a great place to unwind after class or grab a quick bite for lunch. With a menu featuring all sorts of items, from acai bowls to milk tea, smoothies, and coffee, there is something for everyone. But their empanadas steal the show with their flavorful fusion blends that pack a punch of flavor. I recommend their classic Argentine empanadas with eggs, olives, raisins, and the meat of your choice. The taste is simply delicious, so don’t knock it until you try it! They even have sweet empanadas like guava, nutella, and dulce de leche.
4. Divine Coffee
Divine Coffee is an independent café located just outside of the Duluth area in Johns Creek, but they are too good to not be included on this list. Their menu has a variety of delicious choices for any mood, and their specialty is quality food that makes an impression. It features freshly brewed coffee, tea, breakfast and lunch, desserts, and gelato. I recommend trying their warm and soft waffles topped with berries or the sweet and refreshing mango lemonade. Divine Coffee's standout feature of this cafe is its unique layout. Spacious and eclectic, the cafe has aesthetic areas to sit and work in. The cafe looks like you stepped into a Pinterest board, with its beautiful décor and greenery that creates an inviting and calming atmosphere for any student.
All in all, these delightful cafes are just a small fraction of the delicious cafes that Duluth has to offer! However, these spots are just what every student needs: a place to hang out with friends, study or work, and most importantly, eat good food! And if you ever find yourself in Atlanta, I hope you give these places a try!
